What about a little impulsiveness!

David Hockney, landscape painting in Yorkshire

Of course to do something correctly one needs to spend time at a task and not jump from an idea to another. One needs to work on a project with dedication until the mission is complete. It is common sense, but should we undertake to do only one activity well throughout our life? Isn't there more to it? Too much of a single aspect can be suffocating, alienating. So what about a little impulsiveness to get us off the beaten track?

David Hockney is a marvelous example of an artist with impromptu creativity, yet with thorough dedication and attention to his work. He is a painter foremost, who also turned out to be a photographer, historian, theater decorator, draftsman, pop art painter, landscape painter, portrait painter and more recently ipad painter. As he moves along into new fields of creativity, he continues to juggle with colors, dots, lines, technology to come put with original viewpoints we have never seen before.

At 76 years old David Hockney goes on working, exploring and never ceases to surprise us with a remarkable freshness and intensity one can only admire. As long as it is our own, maybe a little impulsiveness every now and then, is not so bad after all.
